Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today appealed to his former party colleagues to return to the party fold as “it is the right time to do so.”
He said: “I understand the reasons, circumstances and pressures that forced you to leave the party. But now the situation and the circumstances have changed. Let us make a new beginning.”
The former Chief Minister said he was in touch with several former colleagues who had told him they wanted to return to the Congress.
“I know that none of them is feeling comfortable in their new parties,” he said.
He claimed that most of them had been deceived into leaving the Congress with false promises.
Amarinder said these leaders would be given due respect in their parent party. He said the Congress had a distinct culture and no Congress leader could be comfortable in another party.
“Feeling alienated and suffocated in other parties, these leaders are now keen to return to the Congress and are waiting for the right opportunity,” he said, hoping that most of them would be “back home soon.”
When contacted, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa said Amarinder was free to express his viewpoint and refused to comment any further.
