GURDASPUR: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Baj wa has predicted a victory for the Congress in the state, saying that the SAD-BJP alliance is not just facing an anti-incumbency but a tidal wave of anger of the people”.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday just before polling came to a close, he said that the election results “would mark the beginning of the end of the Aurangzebi (repressive) regime of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, and his extended clan”.

Bajwa, who is seeking reelection from Gurdaspur, said that Badal had sought votes, ahead of the 2012 assembly elections, to form a pro-people gover nment on the patter n of the only Sikh ruler, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. However, in practice, his regime during the last seven years proved to be “diametrically opposite”, he added.

He claimed that the electorate has now given vent to their anger in a democratic way against the “goonda raj of the Akali goons who had made the life of the ordinary citizen miserable”.

He said that even a commodity like sand had turned into gold for the ruling coterie led by the deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and his brotherin-law and revenue minister, Bikram Singh Majithia.

The Congress chief said that Badal had to finally confess that his government had committed blunders and had even gone to the extent of appealing to the people that they should not punish their prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for their misdeeds. He predicted that the SAD-BJP’s high profile candidates would lose miserably.
