Ferozepur : Leader of Opposition in the state Sunil Jakhar lashed out at the state government, blaming it for misusing funds under MNREGA schemes sanctioned by the Central government for the year 2014- 15. He claimed that state government taking advantage of election code of conduct, diverted around Rs 107 crore to the other areas instead for MNREGA workers.

He mentioned that Central government had sanctioned Rs 107.30 crore on April 3, 2014, despite the fact that the election code of conduct was in force. The Central government had sanctioned this amount to the Punjab government but the MNREGA workers still did not get their jobs. He said that deputy chief minister had also assured 100 days’ employment to members of the NREGA union.

Further, he said that the state government had cited the election code of conduct while issuing this grant, whereas the Central government had issued this grant for the poor section of society to ensure 100 days’ employment.

He also alleged that last year the government had only spent 30.71 per cent of the total amount on the purchase of material. He also cited that there were gross irregularities in purchase of material under MNREGA. The state government was not serious about the Central schemes as they were more interested in using these schemes for their personal motives, he claimed.
