Ferozepur : Amid apprehensions about the revision in power tariff, Sunil Jakhar expressed surprise over the ‘silence’ of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on the issue. Jakhar said the people have been facing regular power cuts in the state. He also slammed the state government for imposing ‘huge taxes’ on the public. He said the government has gone into coma just after 12 days of the poll.
“Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal claims that Punjab is a power surplus state now, but why the state government has kept mum over the possibilities of the revision in the power tariff. BJP had suffered embarrassment on this issue in 2009-10. Now the people have started believing that the BJP-SAD alliance was responsible for burdening them with enhanced taxes,” said the leader of Opposition.
He also mentioned that Punjab Chief Minister at a meeting with BJP high command in 2010 had agreed to restore the old power tariff but the decision was not implemented. “Now BJP leaders are trying to befool the people by proposing formation of coordination committee to check the public outrage over the enhanced taxes on the day of polling across the state,” Jakhar said.
He said that each part of the state has been witnessing acute shortage of power. The crisis had affected small scale industry and work in cotton ginning, pressing factories had already come to grinding halt due to the government’s ‘irrational’ policies. “So I urge the chief minister to break his silence over the shortage of the power,” he added.
