Amritsar: The Congress party here wrote to the Election Commission of India expressing its apprehensions about the reports of ad hoc employees of the state government being deputed for counting at Amritsar with a lure that they would be regularised if they favour the BJP candidate Arun Jaitely.
In a letter to the ECI, Karanpal Sekhon, the election agent of the Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Singh said that the party had learnt that ad hoc employees were being deputed for counting and asked that in case they favour BJP candidate during the counting, their jobs would be regularised.
The party said, the ECI rules do not allow any ad hoc employee to count the votes and the officer should be State or Central government gazetted officers. Maintaining that the ECI must ensure that all the rules and norms are followed, at the same it should also see that no manipulations would be allowed at the time of counting at Amritsar on May 16.
