Amritsar : With less than 48 hours to go for counting, Congress candidate Capt Amarinder Singh today warned the Election Commission of India against possible mischief by SAD-BJP leaders in Amritsar "aimed at countermanding the counting in a desperate bid to pre-empt or delay the poll outcome ".
He threatened that in case of any such mischief by Cabinet Ministers Anil Joshi and Bikram Singh Majithia, the Congress workers “will go to any extent” to stop them.
“Our party workers are already angry over what has happened during the past few days and they will hit back and hit hard in case of any provocation,” he warned.
The former Chief Minister claimed that the ruling alliance feared that it might lose the Amritsar seat and that was why BJP candidate Arun Jaitley had paid an unscheduled visit to Amritsar on Tuesday.
The Congress leader requested the Election Commission to deploy additional security in Amritsar that had been declared a sensitive area. He also asked local officials not to "come under any pressure" and perform their duty in a fair manner.
