Amritsar : In the murder of jail inmate, Bikramjeet Singh of Algon Kothi, Congress has demanded CBI probe in the matter. The deceased died during the police interrogation on the night of May 5. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing an Akali leader Gurdial Singh, a resident of Algon Kothi in the year 2002.
In a press statement, Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Singh Khaira informed, “The murder of Bikramjeet has brought monstrous image of Punjab police into light.” “The shocking cold blooded murder has exposed the Punjab police as a gang of ‘supari’ killers in uniform,” he added. He said, “Congress has rejected the story presented by Amritsar police commissioner Jatinder Singh Aulkah who had appointed 12 cops behind this alleged murder.”
Khaira asserted “Can ASI’s, head constables and constables have the audacity to commit such a heinous crime, unless shielded and patronised by police and political hierarchy?” He informed, “The family of deceased Bikramjit Singh in their petition before the High Court has alleged that their kin’s murder is a result of a deep conspiracy between the family of slain Gurdial Singh, AIG S S Mand and some powerful Akali leaders of Majha.
“It is highly imperative that the real conspirators and culprits must be brought to justice without any further delay. Therefore, Congress suggests that only CBI inquiry can bring out the real truth behind the alleged murder,” he added.
