Chandigarh : The newly elected Congress MP from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh would meet Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal on Monday to get his resignation accepted.

Amarinder had tendered resignation from the membership of Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

Confirming this, the Speaker told Daily Post that Amarinder has been given time for personal meeting on Monday to verify the resignation letter.

“Since he had not submitted the resignation in person, it was necessary to verify it,” Dr

Atwal said, while adding that after the meeting, which has been fixed for 11 am, the formal order to accept the resignation would be passed.

Amarinder, who is also Congress MLA from Patiala, needs to be relieved from the membership of Punjab Assembly before May 31 when the newly elected parliamentarians are supposed to take oath.

Meanwhile, the resignation of another Congress MLA Arvind Khanna was also not yet accepted by the Speaker.
