Chandigarh : With the resignation of Sarwan Singh Phillaur, four berths in Punjab Cabinet have fallen vacant. While Anil Joshi had vacated one berth last week, Bibi Jagir Kaur and Tota Singh had stepped out following their convictions in separate cases immediately after the Badal regime had taken charge of the state for the second consecutive term in March, 2012. Also, the senior-most Cabinet minister from the BJP Chuni Lal Bhagat is likely to be dropped from the Badal government hortly.

Following these developments, the reshuffle in Punjab Cabinet is likely to take place in the coming days. Besides filling the vacant berths, the portfolios of several Cabinet ministers, especially from the SAD, are likely to be changed during the rejig, claim top sources in the government. With the Badals presently busy in the formation of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, the Cabinet reshuffle is likely to be undertaken any time after NDA Cabinet swearing in.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
