Partap Singh Bajwa, Punjab Congress president, today alleged the Akali Dal had failed to put up a good show in the Lok Sabha poll since people had judged the state government by its “negative” performance.

He said the victory margin of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s daughter-in-law Harsimrat Kaur was reduced to a few thousands from more than a lakh in the previous election. Bajwa said even the SAD’s alliance partner, the BJP had started questioning Akali leaders’ style of functioning.

“Can Badal deny the fact that all resources of the state had been diverted to Bathinda. Despite that, people in this Lok Sabha constituency, showed black flags to the party candidate seeking re-election,” he said.

The PPCC chief alleged more than 18,000 industrial units had been closed down in the last seven years. The recent unit to wind up its operations was IT giant Dell in Mohali. He said his government had projected the investment summit as a big achievement with the signing of MoUs worth Rs 66,000 crore. “Nothing has materialized on the ground. Even in the farm sector front, debt ridden farmers continue to commit suicide as the government has failed to evolve a strategy to bail out farmers,” Bajwa added.
