CHANDIGARH/PATIALA: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday expressed concern over continued uncertainty about the fate of Indian workers, a majority of them from the state, kidnapped by insurgents from Mosul town in Iraq.
In a statement, he said the union government had on Wednesday assured of all possible steps to rescue them. However, no contact had been established with the workers or their abductors so far.
He urged the government to intensify efforts to ensure the safety of their workers and make arrangements for their return after negotiating their freedom.
In Patiala, former minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur urged the Centre to act swiftly and ensure the safety of the kidnapped Punjabis. In a statement, she shared concern with their families and said, “Punjabis are known to be hardworking and it is unfortunate that these boys have been trapped in the turmoil.”
