CHANDIGARH: Expressing displeasure over the handling of the issue of the abducted and stranded Indians in Iraq by the Centre, the Congress deputy leader in Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh has sought a status report on the situation.
“Extraordinary situations call for extraordinary responses and we don’t see the government (of India) having done anything extraordinary so far to handle this situation,” he said.
Referring to the situation in places like Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and other states people from where are stranded and abducted in Iraq, Amarinder in a statement issued on Monday said the people were genuinely worried and concerned and all they are told is that their kin are safe.
Amarinder also had a dig at Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal who recently announced that his government will reimburse the expenses incurred by people on making telephone calls to their relatives stranded in Iraq.
“I am really grateful to our philanthropic chief minister for this great philanthropic act of reimbursing people’s telephone bills,” he remarked, while adding that, “but, that is no consolation to them as they want the secure release and return of their kin back home”.
