Jalandhar : Punjab Congress spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira on Wednesday challenged Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s statement that congress leaders should bring evidence against Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore drug mafia.
Khaira said that CM Badal had reacted to the demand of congress leaders that Majithia should be dismissed for drug trafficking and sought evidence. “I am releasing some pictures of Majithia along with drug mafia people which would provide proof to CM Badal. Besides, we also seek a CBI probe in this case,” he said.
He said that such a statement by octogenarian CM Badal has substantiated the off repeated allegation of congress that Bikram Majithia was being shielded by the Akalis merely because of his relationship with Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal,” he said.
Addressing a press conference, Khaira said that MLA Sarwan Singh Phillaur was asked to resign due to summoning of his son Damanvir Singh by the Enforcement Directorate on the statement of drug lord Jagdish Bhola. “It was a matter of record, that Jagdish Bhola has also named Bikram Majithia as a culprit in the same statement before the ED. If Phillaur resigned then how could CM Badal wield a different yard stick for Majithia?” he questioned.
The Punjab Congress spokesperson also said that as Phillaur belonged to weaker section of the society and did not command the influence and relationship like Majithia, hence he was made a scapegoat. However, the fact was that there was more incriminating evidence against Majithia as compared to Phillaur.
“Last year Maninder Singh alias Bittu Aulakh the General Secretary of YAD and Jagjit Chahal, a businessman were arrested from Amritsar on the leads provided by Jagdish Bhola. If these culprits could be arrested on the statements of Jagdish Bhola, than why disbelieve Bhola’s statement regarding Bikram Majithia? Moreover, Bhola had publicly named Majithia before the media at Mohali but the Deputy CM and DGP jumped their guns to give a clean chit to him,” he said. Khaira said that it was a common practice the world over to crack most serious crimes through arrested culprits and accused, as they were part and parcel of the chain of crime.
