Faridkot : A complainant against Sukhbir Singh Badal in an 8-year-old "attempt to murder" case has asked a court in Faridkot to cancel the bail of Deputy Chief Minister and confiscate his passport as he has gone abroad without taking the permission of the court.
In an application to the vacation judge in Faridkot, the complainant, Naresh Sehgal, alleged that the court at the time of granting bail to Badal in the case eight years ago had stated that Sukhbir should seek the court's permission before leaving the country. But, Sukhbir Badal was going abroad repeatedly without informing the court, alleged Sehgal. Therefore, Sukhbir's bail be cancelled and his passport be confiscated, he demanded.
The vacation court has forwarded Sehgal's application to the district and sessions judge, said Sehgal's advocate Sunil Chawla. The courts will resume functioning on July 1 after the summer vacations end. Fearing for his life, Sehgal has also asked the court to provide CRPF personnel for his protection.
The case was registered against Sukhbir Badal and some associates in Faridkot for allegedly assaulting Sehgal on September 5, 1999 in Kotkapura town of Faridkot.
A case was registered against Sukhbir Badal and seven others on the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on June 30, 2006 after the complainant approached the court. Sukhbir Badal and the other accused were granted bail.
