Ludhiana : Ludhiana Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu, on Saturday, rubbished the Central government announcement of bonus of Rs 50 per quintal and demanded Rs 150 per quintal as bonus for the farmers.

Bittu called the announced bonus as a joke played with farmers.

In a statement issued here on Saturday, Bittu said that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, who claims to be the well-wisher of farmers, instead of raising his voice before the Central government has been mum over the issue.

He added that Badal used to make claims that the UPA government did not support the state government. “As the NDA government is in power in which Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is a member, why is Badal backing the government instead of raising the issues of the farmers?” he said.

Commenting on Badal’s statement, Bittu said, “What if the NDA government has come to power recently, the SAD-BJP government has been in power for the past 7 years and if the state government has adequate funds, it should announce Rs 150 bonus per quintal on its own.”
