Mohali : The rift among the state Congress leaders again came to light on Monday when the Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha and former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh said that he will not campaign for party’s Talwandi Sabo candidate, Harminder Singh Jassi in the by-election which will be held on August 21.

Captain, while speaking to media persons in the district courts here on Monday, said that he will campaign in Patiala for his wife and former Member of Parliament Preneet Kaur who is fielded by the party in the Patiala constituency. Captain also condemned the state government’s role after the formation of separate Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) and said that the state government should not politicise the issue.

Captain said that he is busy as the monsoon session is in progress in Parliament but he will assist his wife when she will go to file her nomination papers for the election on August 2. “I will concentrate on Patiala and will camp in the constituency after the conclusion of the Monsoon session on August 8,” said Captain.

When asked that if he will campaign for Harminder Singh Jassi, party’s candidate from Talwandi Sabo, captain said that it is the duty of state party president Partap Singh Bajwa to campaign for the party candidate in Talwandi Sabo.

“Shri Akal Takht Sahib is a supreme body for all Sikh so the Badal government should not politicise the matter by dictating terms to the Jathedars as it is like playing with fire,” said Captain.

When asked about the new Haryana governor’s reluctance to give his approval for the separate HSGMC, Captain said that now it is a constitutional body and Haryana has the right to form its separate body.

“In 1971, Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal, started a morcha for demanding separate Gurdwara Committee for Delhi. if Delhi has a separate committee then why can’t Haryana,” added Captain.
