Govt should arrest drug lords instead of addicts

Amritsar : Senior BJP leader, Lakshmi Kanta Chawla slammed Punjab government for not arresting drug lords of the state. In a press statement, Chawla said, “Instead of arresting drug smugglers, the concerned government was putting drug addicts behind the bars.” She said that she had come to know that in its drive against drugs, Punjab police has labelled drug addicts as smugglers and booked them under false cases. Chawla asserted that it was very unfortunate that police were arresting innocents, instead drug lords were still moving freely.
She said that Punjab government should make committees to verify the fact that whether arrested persons were drug smugglers or just an addict. She said that Punjab government should send the addicts to de-addiction centres instead of jails. She feels that by putting drug addicts behind bars would demoralise them.
