FEROZEPUR: Leader of opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar has urged the SAD-BJP government to take over the control of adarsh schools from private players in the state.

He alle ged that private managements running adarsh schools, set up to facilitate quality education to rural kids, were allegedly indulging in malpractices and exploiting teaching as well as non-teaching staff working in these schools.

The objective of these schools was to improve the standard of education in rural areas, but the commercial approach of the organisations running these schools, the concept of adarsh schools has been badly compromised, alleged Jakhar.

As per the guidelines of the Union HRD ministry, the staff in these schools must be paid on the pattern of the employees working in kendriya vidyalyas, but the ground reality is entirely different and the staff were being allegedly exploited by the private players, who are least interested in improving the standard of education, he said.

Recently, a representation of the teaching and non-teaching staff of adarsh schools had met him and told him about the situation in these schools, Jakhar said.

Instead of just laying more and more foundation stones, the government must first concentrate to better run the already launched projects, he suggested.

The SAD-BJP government had also announced to set up adarsh schools in Bathinda, Faridkot and Abohar, but nothing has been done in this regard so far.

The foundation stone for an adarsh school was laid by Punjab deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal at Sappanwali village three years ago but the project is still hanging in air, he said.
