Patiala : Congress candidate from Patiala Urban Preneet Kaur on Tuesday appealed to the people to judge her by the performance during the last 15 years of having represented them in Parliament.
“You have tried and seen my work all these years and I leave it to your judgment to give me a chance to represent you in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha now,” she said during her meetings with party workers and supporters here.
Referring to various development works carried out in Patiala city during her parliamentary tenure, she said, unfortunately out of 15 years of her being in the parliament, for ten years it was the Akali rule in the state which made it difficult for her to get projects implemented.
“Despite that I tried my best to ensure that Patiala does not lag behind”, she said, adding that several projects which were started between 2002 and 2007 were abandoned by the successor Akali government.
Challenging the Akalis to show a single project they had started in Patiala, Ms Kaur said, it was during the Congress government only that Rajiv Gandhi Law University was set up, the Rajindra Hospital was upgraded to super-speciality hospital for advanced medical treatment to the people at their door steps, Patiala was brought within the ambit of the National Capital Region (NCR) as a Counter Magnet Town, to name a few only.
She said the list was too long and she will in due course of time give the details of all these projects which were brought by her, initiated and implemented at her initiative as also those which were sabotaged and abandoned by the Akalis later.
Meanwhile, the Congress party on Tuesday finalised arrangements for the Patiala Urban bye-election scheduled for August 21. Senior party leaders including ex-ministers, MLAs and ex-MLAs, district presidents and other office bearers have been assigned to look after different areas within the constituency.
