TALWANDI SABO: Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Tuesday said the countdown for the SAD-BJP government’s downfall would start from the sacred town of Talwandi Sabo. He claimed that the Congress would also retain the Patiala seat.

Bajwa called upon people to inflict a crushing defeat on Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, the deserter from the Congress, whose defection to the Akali Dal had necessitated the by-election, and make Harminder Singh Jassi of the Congress victorious.

He was talking to reporters after inaugurating Jassi’s election office here.

Bajwa alleged that Sidhu had stabbed the Congress in the back for vested interests but had failed to get any respectable place in the other party, though he had been given the ticket by the Akali Dal as he had joined the party only after getting that assurance.

He called upon the people not to divide the anti-incumbency vote and give a solid mandate to Jassi as the Aam Aadmi Party had no future.

Bajwa slammed the Badal government for allegedly having failed to keep its promises made during the last assembly elections, like hike in Shagun scheme, laptops to students, Rs 1,000 per month unemployment allowance and hike in old-age pension.

He alleged that Badal was out to create tension in the region by launching a crusade against the aspirations of Sikhs in Haryana, and hoped that the standoff might be resolved before reaching a flashpoint.
