CHANDIGARH: Former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday sought the Election Commission’s (EC) intervention against chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and deputy chief minister Sukhbir Badal for their schedule to unfurl the national flag on August 15 at Patiala and Bathinda, respectively, in view of the by-elections a week later.

Amarinder, in a statement here, sought the EC’s attention, saying this amounted to serious violation of the model code of conduct for elections.

“This is not a coincidence but a deliberate attempt by the father-son duo to use Independence Day for electoral purpose,” Amarinder said, while demanding that they be forced to change the flag-hoisting venues.
