KURUKSHETRA: While the situation at the historic gurdwaras at Kurukshetra and elsewhere in the state remained peaceful on Friday following the Supreme Court order that a status quo be maintained, Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) president Jagdish Singh Jhinda accused Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal of rejecting the Akal Takht by approaching the apex court on the issue of a separate body for managing Haryana gurdwaras.
Jhinda, who was busy looking into accounts and other aspects regarding the functioning of Gurdwara Chhevin Patshahi at Gulha, the possession of which was taken by HSGMC on Wednesday, alleged that it was Badal who dragged the Akal Takht jathedar into this controversy and got various ‘hukamnamas’ (edicts) issued from the jathedar in his and SGPC favour, but now he has “lost faith” in the Akal Takht and went to the Supreme Court through an SGPC member.
Jhinda said they could have also approached the court to get justice as the SGPC and Badal were not allowing the legally-constituted HSGMC to take the possession of gurdwaras in Haryana. “But we did not go to the court as we felt that it is a religious matter of the community, which should be solved within the community only,” he added.
