Bathinda : The state spokesperson of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), former MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Saturday appealed the Congress senior leadership to focus on Talwandi Sabo assembly constituency exposing chinks in the armour of Congress.
Addressing media persons here today, Khaira said that while Patiala assembly seat has always been in Congress kitty, the party needed to concentrate on Talwandi Sabo to bring down the Badal regime in state.
“Captain Amarinder Singh’s charismatic persona has always ensured Congress victory at the Patiala seat. The seat is ours as we have worked a lot in constituency for its upliftment and development. Its Talwandi Sabo that should be focussed on now,” said Khaira.
He appealed to the senior Congress leaders, apart from PPCC chief Pratap Singh Bajwa (who is already camping here), to visit Talwandi. “This is no time to satisfy egos. A number of party MLAs and leaders are camping in Patiala, where they are not needed. They should instead campaign in Talwandi Sabo. I also appeal to Captain Amarinder Singh to canvass for the Congress candidate from Talwandi Harminder Singh Jassi,” he “said adding that the party should not have any soft corner for its rebellion MLA Jeet Mohinder Sidhu who is now the folds of SAD. He said that at Talwandi it was not Congress versus Akalis, but Congress versus Badal.
Khaira agreed that Congress has several lessons to learn from its losses in the Lok Sabha elections. Attributing the rise of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a result of lack of reforms in politics he said that AAP’s victory in Punjab state has reignited need for quality leadership and much needed reforms in the politics.
Demanding revision of draught relied announced for the Punjab farmers he said that the Modi led NDA government announced mere Rs 1050 compensation per hectare for the drought hit state which is facing 58 percent deficit rain this monsoon. “Rs 1,050 per hectare does not translate to even Rs 400 per acre, which sounds like a cruel joke. Had the decision come from Manmohan Singh led UPA government, CM Prakash Singh Badal would have condemned the centre government time and again. However, now CM Badal seems to have accepted the little relief for drought and not uttered even a single word,” he said.
Says the police action has curbed democratic right to protest
Bajwa meets protestors
