Amritsar : Congress Deputy Leader Capt Amarinder Singh on Sunday wrote to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and sought her urgent attention for the transportation of body of Rajinder Kumar Sharma, an Amritsar resident, who was shot dead in the US last Wednesday.

In his letter to the External Affairs Minister, copies of which were sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, Capt Amarinder said that the family was suffering as it had no clue on how to get the body back for cremation and other funeral rituals.

Sharma who was working in a gas station was shot dead while on duty. He belonged to Khandwala in Chheharta area of Amritsar and was working in the US for last three years.

The Amritsar MP urged Swaraj to direct the Indian embassy in the US to make the necessary arrangements so that the body could be transported to India at the earliest.

“You can well imagine the tragedy and the trauma of the family which has lost its member in the most tragic circumstances and are being made to wait indefinitely for the return of the body,” he wrote in the letter while hoping that urgent initiative will be taken.

Amarinder regretted that none of the government officials had contacted the family so far.
