Patiala : Asserting that it was a classic case of pot calling the kettle black, Congress candidate from Patiala (Urban) Preneet Kaur on Monday said that the Akalis had already lost their only bet of telling lies as people were wise enough to know who is responsible for the civic and other basic amenities in the city.

Ridiculing the charges by the Akali leaders that the Congress was to blame for the civic problems like the sewerage and drainage system in Patiala, she asked, “If it is so then what have they been doing there for all these years.”

She said that the Akalis were in power for over seven and a half years and still they were trying to blame the Congress. She said it is good that the Akalis have themselves admitted that it was Congress which covered the main drain.

“Now they have not cleaned the drain for the last seven years that has led to the flooding of the most parts of the city and this they are also trying to put on us that they were not able to clean it due to the cover,” she remarked, adding that the fact was that they never bothered to clean it as there was proper provision for cleaning the nullah even after it is duly
covered.

Telling the people that they must make a distinction about the role of an MP, the Central government and the state government, the former minister asked as to how can a Central minister be blamed for local problems which was the job of the state government and the local municipal corporation.
