Capt bats for STF for women’s security

Patiala : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh here on Tuesday promised to set up a Special Task for Women’s Security in Punjab, which will exclusively be meant for women’s security, once Congress comes to power after 2017 state assembly elections.

He also announced that the Congress government will resume the student elections in the colleges and universities to ensure that there were officially recognised students’ representative bodies in educational institutions.

Interacting with the students of various educational institutions of Patiala in Ru-ba-ru programme organised by the students’ wing of the party under the leadership of Deep Randhawa, Capt Amarinder Singh shared the concern of the girl students about their safety and security and the rise of incidents of crime against them. He said that rise in crime against women was a serious cause of concern and the state government needs to take strict measures.

He agreed with the students’ suggestion that the students’ union elections should be held in colleges and universities to ensure that there are no unauthorised organisations which hold students and the institutions to ransom.

The students were drawn from various institutions like the Punjabi University, Thapar University, Mahindra College, Rajindera College and others. Prominent students’ representatives present included Joyen Aggarwal, Ashwani Bhalla, Pawan Punj, Manmohan Billa, Bharat Bhushan and others.

The Rotarians promised him full support to Preneet Kaur and the Congress saying, Punjab in general and Patiala in particular had only benefitted during the Congress rule.
