Ferozepur : While expressing deep concern over the unhygienic conditions which have been prevailing in all cities of Punjab, especially just before the celebration of 68th Independence Day, Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar has raised the issue of ongoing strike of employees of Municipal Corporations and councils, which have been creating sanitation problems for the residents of Punjab.
He also slammed the state Government for celebrating Independence Day in this unhealthy environment, where people of the state have been facing garbage in the streets and on the roads.
While issuing the press release here, Sunil Jakhar said, “The state government has been conducting meetings with employees of these Municipal Corporations and councils but failed to address the demands of the employees.” He said that if the state government will not solve this problem within two days, then people of the state are bound to celebrate Independence Day amid unhygienic conditions. He said that the celebration of the Independence Day has more importance than all other festivals of the country. Jakhar said that the state government has been trying to suppress the rights of the elected committees of Nagar Parishad by releasing the notification. They can only work under the healthy conditions instead of imposing these kinds of suppressing rules. He also demanded that state government stop the outsourcing of important government services, so that youth of the state could get employment. He also urged the state government to improve the working environment for the employees.
He also condemned recent notification pertaining to the transfer of the clerical staff and criticised the transfers of powers to only selected officials. He said that it would affect the healthy work culture and ruling party’s politicians will misuse this power after giving threat of transfer to employees. He said that state government should immediately stop the passage of directionless notifications and should consider the rights of the employees.
