Patiala : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Capt Amarinder Singh on Wednesday favoured the setting up of judicial and administrative complexes in proximity to each other. Responding to the demands of local lawyers at a function organised by the Patiala District Bar Association in his honour, he agreed that the lawyers were facing many difficulties in view of the fact that judicial and administrative complexes were located at different places in the city.

As a special gesture and mark of acknowledgement for what he has done for the legal fraternity in Patiala, Singh was given a standing ovation by hundreds of lawyers who had gathered to listen to him on the occasion. Captain said: “It is unfortunate that the Akalis had vengefully discriminated against Patiala just because people here have always supported the Congress party.”

He said that Patiala was being viciously and willfully being discriminated against the situation at other places across Punjab and as for Bathinda, situation was no better. Former chief minister observed that the Akalis seemed to have given it up as they had lost control over everything.

The economy, he said was in shambles, there was massive unemployment which was rising beyond acceptable limits, industry was either shutting down or moving out and the government was unconcerned.

He criticised the approach of the state government in handling the problem of drug addiction. He said main producers, suppliers and peddlers were roaming scot-free, the addicts were being put behind bars.He said that the addicts should better be put in de-addiction and rehabilitation centres and not in jails as they need to be treated and not tortured, as being done during the current regime.
