Chandigarh : Jagmeet Singh Brar, senior Congress leader and former member of the Congress Working Committee, today said that he was preparing a 100-point charter of reforms that would be sent to all Congress leaders, including members of the AICC, presidents of state units, MPs and former MPs.
Brar said he favoured a fixed tenure for AICC presidentship. “It should not be more than 10 years, in any case," he said. Claiming he was not targeting anyone, he said: "No party leader should be nominated or elected to the Rajya Sabha for more than two terms. When these leaders contest Lok Sabha elections in their states, they perform miserably.”
Brar said a state unit chief should not be allowed to hold office if the party loses assembly elections twice in a row under his leadership.
"Those defecting to the Congress should not be considered for a party position or office for five years. They should be asked to work for the party first. Anybody against whom criminal charges have been framed should not be nominated to any party office or be fielded for an election,” said Brar. He said the party should finalise alliances with other parties two years prior to an Assemby poll or General Election. "There should be a clear policy regarding such alliances. No leader found opposing the official candidate should be given any space in the party," he added.
