Tarn Taran : Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has welcomed Pakistan PM Imran Khan’s announcement on the release of IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan tomorrow, terming it a goodwill gesture that would help ease the prevailing tension at the border.
Interacting with BSF personnel at Khalra observation post during a tour of the border areas in this district today, the CM said the Pulwama attack by Pak-back terror forces was an act of cowardice, necessitating retaliation by the Indian government.
He extended support to the BSF to deal with the heightened tension along the border. “We are there for you,” he told them. Capt Amarinder recalled his days in 1965, when he was with the Indian Army, and said he still remembered his own 22 days in the region.
During his tour, the CM interacted with residents of at least 15 border villages, including Masatgarh, Shaheed Baba Tara Singh Wala, Rajoke, Kalia Shatara, Dholan, Lakhna and Kals. He urged the residents to stay calm and not to be swayed by rumours.
Urging the residents not to panic, the CM said the government was committed to ensure the safety and security of every citizen. Capt Amarinder, who shared lunch with locals, told them not to give in to rumours. The CM also asked the civil and police administration to work in coordination to prevail upon the border residents not to leave their homes in panic, but to jointly hold meetings of panchayats and prominent residents to instill a sense of confidence.
Earlier, Capt Amarinder visited the 14th BSF Batallion headquarters at Khemkaran where he was briefed about the defence preparedness by BSF IG Mahipal Yadav.
The CM also interacted with the family of Pulwama martyr Sukhjinder Singh of Tarn Taran and assured them of all possible support and assistance.
