Sidhu inaugurates smart city projects worth ₹45 cr

AMRITSAR: Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu on Sunday inaugurated two development projects—Installation of LED streetlights and Installation of solar power at rooftops—for Amritsar smart city worth ₹45 crore in the holy city.
The minister, along with state education minister OP Soni, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, mayor Karamjit Singh Rintu, municipal corporation (MC) commissioner Sonali Giri and Amritsar smart city limited CEO Komal Mittal, also inaugurated his new office inside the Amritsar MC complex.
Sidhu said, “To enable development in the holy city, over 60,000 LED streetlights will be installed across the city under smart city project at an estimated cost of ₹35 crore. Solar PV systems, costing ₹ 10 crore, will also be installed on 11 government buildings under the project.”
“Besides, work on series of projects worth ₹2000 crore is in progress in the holy city. ₹168 crore will be spent to introduce 30 electric buses and 9000 electric three-wheelers under ‘Green Public Transportation’ in the city. UBDC canal project, at a cost of ₹1300 crore, to supply water to the residents of Amritsar has also been approved. The work will begin soon on the project,” said Sidhu, adding, “On March 5, 2019, the work on construction of four new bridges announced by chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, will also kick off.
Sidhu also inaugurated bioremediation plant at Bhagtanwala dump and handed over cheques for ₹50,000 to 46 families each under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
