Abohar : Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar today slammed ruling alliance partner BJP for failing to reduce power tariff in the state. Jakhar accused the saffron party of betraying the electorate to whom it had promised the moon during the Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha elections.
He said tariff was raised by the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) in September 2009 with effect from April 2009. The BJP had then reportedly threatened to withdraw from the government, but succumbed to its greed for power.
At a high-level meeting held in New Delhi, the SAD-BJP had agreed to restore the old tariff on January 6, 2010, Jakhar claimed. He said the BJP’s studied silence over the additional burden amounting to Rs 594 crore due to the increased tariff showed it was fooling the people.
