Captain Amarinder Water Project: AMRITSAR: Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh yesterday gave clean chit to his promise of providing better health facilities to the people. Government will spend 198 crore for setting up sewerage system and water test laboratory in Punjab. The four projects of today started in Amritsar district.

On this occasion, he also announced for the upgradation of Lopoke Sub Tehsil. He also announced to built a new degree college at Chougaon. CM appealed to the people of punjab to save water for future generations. He said that due to the effects of greenhouse gases, erosion of glaciers and deepening of ground water, the situation became alarming. During the construction of Bhakra, only 50,000 tubewells were estimated in the state, whereas at present, 14 lakh tubewells are drawing water from the state.
He said that we will get help from various financial institutions, including World Bank, NABARD and Govt. of India. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of a project worth Rs 154.15 crore. He also inaugurated the 60 plots commencing at a cost of Rs 21.97 crores. Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone of the Rs 6 crore water testing laboratory at Amritsar, for the checking of heavy elements of water, arsenic, iron and insecticides. Laboratory is designed in collaboration with the Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai.
He also laid the foundation stone of the Water Supply and Sewerage Scheme at a cost of Rs 15.57 crore. This project would be completed in the year 20019 with the help of NABARD. Out of 883 villages in Amritsar district, water supply department is providing drinking water in 607 villages.
The Chief Minister reiterated his promise to provide clean water to the people. The Chief Minister said that with the assistance of World Bank and NABARD. Addressing the gathering, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Razia Sultana said every house has to pay a bill of Rs. 140 per month so that people can save/preserve water for coming generations.
On this occasion, the Revenue and Irrigation minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria thanked the Chief Minister for initiating such important projects. Lok Sabha member Gurjeet Singh Aujla and MLA Harpartap Singh Ajnala also thanked the Chief Minister Punjab.
