Senior Akali MP from Ferozepur has resigned from the Shiromani Akali Dal. He sent his resignation to the party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday.

The SAD announced that Ghubaya has been expelled from primary membership of the party due to his anti party activities.

Immediately after announcing his resignation from the primary membership of SAD, Ghubaya visited Press Club, Ferozepur and expressed his determination to contest in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. But he kept mum as to which party he will join. He said, “I will join only that party, which gives him due respect as I have been ignored by the SAD leaders for the last two years by not calling me in any meeting”.

Ghubaya said that “I will be contesting the Lok Sabha elections after deccussing with my family – my son who is Congress MLA from Fazilka – and my voters and supporters”. To another question, he said, the image of SAD had gone down because of Sukhbir Singh Badal. I had my differences with the SAD for long and the coming elections will make it as to who is right and who is wrong . He had not resigned earlier because he had been asked to complete his full term. Now when the elections are round the corner, this is right time to resign, he added.

Although Ghubaya refused to say anything on the issue, there is speculation that he may join Congress at Moga on March 7 when Rahul Gandhi is due to visit Punjab ahead of Lok Sabha elections.
