Chandigarh : The Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh, today lashed out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal for having unleashed a ‘reign of terror’ in Talwandi Sabo to win the byelection by hook or by crook.”

He said: “What you did at Talwandi Sabo on August 21 used to happen in Bihar long time ago”. He asked Badal not to gloat over a “stage-managed” victory and apologise to the people of Punjab for “hijacking the electoral process.” On Badal’s claim that the byelection results had shown that the Congress was on the decline, Amarinder Singh the Patiala byelection results marked the beginning of the end for the Akalis.

“If you were so confident of your popularity, why then did you need to fortify Talwandi Sabo with men, muscle and money? The margin of victory itself indicates the extent to which power was abused in Talwandi Sabo,” the former Chief Minister said, adding that “manipulating the margin by abusing power only betrays Badal’s insecurity.”
