Chandigarh : Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Wednesday urged Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to compensate the victims of anti-Sikh riots, living in Haryana.
Bhattal raised this demand while leading a delegation of Singh Sabha Gurdwara Committee from Gurgaon, which called on Hooda at his official residence here, on Wednesday afternoon.
Former CM raised the issue of 1984 anti-Sikh riots and the plight of its victims, living in Haryana, who were not compensated for their major losses in the shape of lives and properties.
Bhattal impressed upon Haryana CM to immediately help the Sikh families of Haryana, who had suffered the heavy losses by losing their family members and businesses, which had been either reduced to ashes during the riots or were forced to sell them out at throwaway prices to go for safer destinations.
In a memorandum submitted to Hooda, it was mentioned that there were approximately 500 families, who were victims of anti-Sikh riots in Haryana and had suffered heavy losses.
While giving a patient hearing, Haryana CM assured the delegation to help the anti-Sikh riot victims in Haryana at the earliest.
