PATIALA : Patiala MP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) rebel leader Dr Dharamvira Gandhi on Monday announced his political outfit ‘Nava Punjab Party’ which will be part of the Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA).

The development comes a day after the Election Commission announced schedule for the parliamentary elections.

Dr Gandhi will contest from Patiala as candidate of the Punjab Democratic Alliance that comprises Sukhpal Singh Khaira’s Punjabi Ekta Party, Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) of the Bains brothers, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Communist Party of India, and the Revolutionary Marxist Party of India (RMPI).

“We had earlier floated Punjab Manch but after serious deliberations announced a new party that will give a tough challenge to the seasonal parties which have failed on all fronts. The Manch will remain an intellectual forum,” Dr Gandhi told mediapersons on the sidelines of an event in Patiala.

“The alliance has shown confidence in me and I will make his best efforts to clinch the Patiala seat again. I have worked for the welfare of the people and raised the issues not to only of my constituency but entire Punjab at the central level,” the MP further said.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Dr Gandhi had defeated three-time Congress MP and former Union minister Preneet Kaur and Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata party (SAD-BJP) nominee Deepinder Singh Dhillon.
