Chandigarh: Known for his trademark witty one-liners, Punjab minister Navjot Singh Sidhu will be one of the star campaigners for the Congress in the Lok Sabha poll hustings, a senior party leader said. The 55-year-old Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister who hogged the headlines for his push for the Kartarpur corridor between India and Pakistan, has been the “star voter-catcher” for the Congress. “Sidhu is one of the star campaigners for the Congress across the country. He has a way of connecting with the audience and has campaign value,” the party’s Punjab affairs in-charge Asha Kumari said. PTI

Hans Raj Golden is PDA candidate from Ferozepur

Fazilka: Senior CPI activist Hans Raj Golden (53) of Fazilka district is the Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) candidate for the Ferozepur Lok Sabha seat. This was decided at a meeting in Jalalabad on Thursday. Golden, CPI’s state executive member, has been president of the Sarv Bharat Naujawan Sabha. He is known for his efforts to eliminate the drug menace. He came into limelight after he was detained in December last year. Golden and others were protesting against the police for “falsely implicating” the vice-president of an NGO in a case.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
