EC issue notices to Youth Akali Dal for organizing Majithia’s Rally without permission

Ludhiana: The Election Commission has served notice to Youth Akali Dal (YAD) district president Meetpal Singh Dugri for organizing rally of Bikram Majithia in Ludhiana without permission. The EC has asked YAD district president to submit reply within two days and action would be taken accordingly.

In a notice, Assistant Returning officer (ARO) of Atam nagar constituency mentioned that District Election Officer has given permission of holding rally on March 11 at Dana Mandi, Gill Road. The video surveillance team of Election Commission has found that the rally was organized in marriage palace on Dugri road. ARO said that holding rally at changed venue without permission amounts to violation of Model Code of Conduct. Returning officer has asked Meetpal Singh Dugri to submit reply within two days otherwise action would be initiated.

When contacted, District president of YAD, Meetpal Singh Dugri said that due to heavy rainfall on March 11 morning the venue of rally was changed on the spot. He said that they had decided to change the venue of rally only one hour before the scheduled time. The workers of YAD didn’t want to postpone the rally and they were left with no option other than to change the venue.

Defending himself, Meetpal Dugri said that that he has informed concerned officials verbally regarding change of venue.
