Tarn Taran, March 22: Akali Dal leader Gurinder Singh Tony has been booked under Sections 171-E and 188 of the CrPC for organising an election rally and using loudspeakers without the permission of the administration at his native Dehra Sahib village on March 13.

The case has been registered on the complaint of head constable Balkar Singh of Goindwal Sahib police station.

The office of the District Election Officer-cum Deputy Commissioner had issued orders to register case against the SAD leader for violating the model code of conduct.

Tony had organised the rally at his residence without obtaining permission from the authorities concerned. “Holding a rally and using loudspeakers without permission is a clear violation of code of conduct under Section 144 of the CrPC,” the DEO report had said.

The rally was addressed by Bibi Jagir Kaur, SAD candidate from Khadoor Sahib, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, Virsa Singh Valtoha, Harmit Singh Sandhu, Manjit Singh and other leaders.

Tony is the nephew of Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, SAD (Taksali) president, and he had rejoined SAD after parting ways from Brahmpura.

He was also accused of serving liquor at the rally, but this has not been mentioned in the case registered on Wednesday.

The police said SAD leader Tony had not taken the permission to install public address system at the rally site.
