SANGRUR: Former cabinet minister and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader late Gobind Singh Kanjhla’s son Amandeep Singh Kanjhla, along with his supporters, has joined Congress in the presence of Congress senior vice-president Kewal Singh Dhillon in Chandigarh on Monday.
“Amandeep joining the Congress will strengthen the party, which is committed towards the development of people,” Kewal Singh Dhillon said.
In a press statement issued while joining Congress, Amandeep said that he has joined the party after taking note of the “progressive policies of Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh”.
Former cabinet minister in the Parkash Singh Badal government (in 1997), Gobind Singh Kanjla, 69, had passed way after a prolonged illness on February 9 this year.
He was elected as a legislator for the first time from the Sherpur assembly constituency in 1985.
