Fatehgarh Sahib likely to see Battle of equals

Fatehgarh Sahib : Two former IAS officers may contest elections from Fatehgarh Sahib Reserve Constituency in upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is set to field Darbara Singh Guru while Dr Amar Singh is likely to contest elections on the Congress ticket.The names of both the leaders are almost final and only formal announcement is awaited, said the sources.Former IAS Darbara Singh Guru has resigned from the job to contest assembly elections from Bahadaur in Sangrur district. However, he has lost from singer-turned politician Mohammad Sadique of Congress.
In 2017 assembly elections, Guru again contested from Bassi Pathana Constituency in Fatehgarh Sahib Constituency. DS Guru was the Principal Secretary to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and said to be close to the Badal family. Highly-placed sources said that the name of DS Guru had been finalised and the announcement would be made anytime.On the other hand, Former IAS Dr Amar Singh is likely to be the face of Congress party in Fatehgarh Sahib Constituency.
Singh has already started campaign but his name is yet to be announced by party high command. Congress leaders said that Amar Singh has got green signal from party high command and started campaign for Lok Sabha elections. Dr. Amar Singh is close to Congress leaders in Delhi and also remained Political secretary of Digvijay Singh.Dr Amar Singh is a retired from Indian Administrative Services.
In 2017 assembly elections, he contested from Raikot Constituency but lost to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Jagtar Singh Jagga Hisowal. Now, he has pulled up his socks for the MP elections from Fatehgarh Sahib reserved constituency. His brother was also former MLA from Raikot constituency.Meanwhile, Punjab Democratic Alliance (PDA) has already announced Manwinder Singh Giaspura from Fatehgarh Sahib Constituency. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has announced Baljinder Singh as candidate.
