Khaira gets notices for holding roadshow without permission

BATHINDA/MANSA : The assistant returning officers (AROs) of Mansa and Talwandi Sabo on Tuesday issued notices to Punjab Ekta Party (PEP) chief Sukhpal Singh Khaira for violating the model code of conduct by holding a roadshow without permission, a day after he started his poll campaign in the Bathinda Lok Sabha segment.

The roadshow started from Dhepai village in Mansa district and culminated at Talwandi Sabo before passing through Mansa, Maur and Kotshamir towns.

“No permission was taken for holding the roadshow, meeting or use of loudspeakers. We didn’t even receive any application seeking permission to hold the roadshow. Besides, posters and hoardings were put up at public places in violation of the model code of conduct,” Mansa SDMcum-ARO Abhijeet Kaplish said.

“Since Khaira was leading the roadshow, we have issued him notice seeking reply within two days of receiving it,” he said.

Bathinda ARO (rural)Bikramjit Shergill said they will be issuing Khaira a notice on Wednesday for violating poll code as his roadshow passed through the Bathinda (rural) assembly segment with no permission.
