CHANDIGARH :Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday directed director general of police (DGP) Dinkar Gupta to ensure speedy probe into the killing of Neha Shoree, who was posted as zonal licensing authority with the drug and food chemical laboratory, Kharar, Mohali.
Expressing concern over the murder, the chief minister ordered prompt investigation into the matter to get to the bottom of the case besides ensuring exemplary punishment to the accused.
The chief minister said no one would be allowed to interfere or intimidate any public servant in the discharge of their duties.
AAP BLAMES GOVT FOR ‘DETERIORATING LAW AND ORDER SITUATION’ Leader of opposition (LoP) in state assembly Harpal Cheema on Friday expressed “deep shock” over the killing of a drug and food chemical officer and held the Amarinder government responsible for the “deteriorating law and order situation” in Punjab.
Neha Shoree, who was posted as zonal licensing authority with the Drug & Food Chemical Laboratory, Kharar, was shot dead in her office on Friday morning.
In a statement, Cheema said the state government headed by Captain Amarinder Singh had failed to check incidents of crime.
“Day in and day out, incidents of crime, like chainsnatching, car-jacking, robberies and murders keep pouring, which reflected the dispensation’s colossal failure to check it,” said Cheema.
Cheema said the people were not safe in the state. Women were soft targets of the criminals, who enjoyed protection of those at the helms of affairs, he added.
The leader of opposition said the issue had been raised by him on the floor of the assembly during the recent Budget session but to no avail as the situation on the ground had not improved.
