CHANDIGARH: Former Union law minister Ashwani Kumar on Thursday said the Congress will pitch in with resources to make the promised farm loan waiver a success in non-Congress ruled states, if it is voted to power at the Centre this time.

Kumar, who was accompanied by Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar at a press briefing on party’s Lok Sabha manifesto, was replying to a question on how the Congress would tackle the loan waiver in Haryana, a state ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party had announced to waive outstanding farm loans in states in its Lok Sabha manifesto released earlier this week. The party which formed governments in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh recently, has started the process to waive farm loans.

The Congress leader said the upcoming Lok Sabha election was crucial for country’s future. Quoting from the manifesto, he said the country has suffered under the ‘Modi model’ for the last five years.

“This model has devastated economy, impoverished farmers, destroyed jobs, divided communities, stoked hatred and spread fear. It is a model that has stripped the average Indian of dignity, voice and trust. This is not the model our country deserves. The Congress model is in stark contrast to the BJP model,” he said.
