7-fold rise in income due to salary, sale of properties: CM

CHANDIGARH: The seven-fold increase in the income of Capt Amarinder Singh after becoming chief minister is due to his salary and perquisites, as well as sale of certain properties, for which there was no provision to mention in the form 26 affidavit submitted by his wife, Preneet Kaur, with her nomination papers as Congress candidate from Patiala, a spokesperson said. Reacting to news reports, he said Amarinder’s individual income in 2016-17 was ₹12 lakh and his Hindu undivided family (HUF) income was nil. “At the end of 2017-18, the CM had earned ₹81 lakh as salary, perquisites and ₹9 lakh as karta of HUF from capital gain by sale of property. The increase in value of his assets from ₹48 crore to ₹58 crore in the last two years was the result of sale of properties — ₹4 crore as advance received against sale of land in Himachal, ₹5 crore from sale of HUF land in Bahadurgarh village in Patiala, ₹1 crore against sale of land in Marzi village and ₹1.25 crore from sale of Dubai flat.Of the sale proceeds, ₹3 crore has gone into purchase of land in Siswan village in Mohali and ₹4 crore on construction of a house on this land. All details had been furnished in the previous IT returns, he added.
