Chandigarh : Four years after he quit the Congress in support of former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar, Vijay Kumar Sathi on Sunday rejoined the party.

The former Congress leader, who had unsuccessfully contested the 2013 Moga byelection on the party ticket, had quit the primary membership of the party, along with several other Brar supporters, in January 2015.

On Sunday, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh welcomed Vijay Sathi back into the party fold. On joining Congress, Sathi said Brar had been taking unilateral decisions. Even the decision to join TMC and now SAD was taken without consulting his supporters.

Meanwhile, ridiculing allegations by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that Congress was loosening its purse strings to get MLAs, the Chief Minister asked: “Why would Congress need more MLAs in Punjab? We already have a majority in the Assembly.”

Citing the video released by Bhagwant Mann, which showed the AAP leader literally begging his MLAs to stay back, Capt termed it a clear sign of his desperation. “It is a case of sheer frustration over AAP’s complete failure to mop up support and keep the party intact in Punjab.” AAP had lost its narrative totally in Punjab and was reduced to indulging in all kinds of gimmickry and fabrications in a desperate bid to retain some semblance of being a serious party, he added.

More turncoats

Fatehgarh Sahib: Prominent SAD activists from the Sirhind area on Sunday joined the Congress in the presence of Congress candidate Dr Amar Singh, MLA Kuljit Nagra and DCC president Subhash Sood during a public meeting at Hamayunpur in Sirhind town. Those who joined the party are Jasbir Singh Deep, Harpal Singh, Ajit Singh Foreman, Bhim Singh and Ujagar Singh.
