AAP’s Tarn Taran district president joins Congress

AMRITSAR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Tarn Taran district president Bhupinder Singh Bittu Khawaspur joined the Congress on Thursday.

Bittu, who was among the ticket aspirants in AAP from Khadoor Sahib, joined the Congress in the presence of Punjab Chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh at Chandigarh. Welcoming Bittu to the party fold, Amarinder said the Congress will gain far more strength in the Majha region, besides ensuing the victory of Khadoor Sahib Congress candidate from Jasbir Singh Dimpa.

Bittu had unsuccessfully contested Khadoor Sahib assembly bypoll as an independent candidate in 2016 after the Congress denied him ticket. The byelection was nessesitated by the resignation of Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki, following a series of incidents of desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib in Punjab.

Bittu said, “I was fed up with the policies of the AAP which is being controlled by a few leaders in Punjab. There is no scope for the workers in AAP.”

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
