KARTARPUR: Chief minister Amarinder Singh on Thursday said the culprits of Behbal Kalan and Kotkapura police firing will be punished once the polls are over and former SIT member, inspector general of police Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh, will be put back on the job the very next day results are out.

Addressing a rally at Kartarpur in Jalandhar, he said, “Only three weeks more are left for the polls to end; the very next day, the IG will rejoin the team and will take the culprits to task.”

He lashed out at Shiromani Akali Dal saying the party was attempting to hamper the SIT investigation into the firing cases. He also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged attempts to take political mileage of the martyrdom of soldiers. “PM Modi asks for votes in the name of the Pulwama terror attack martyrs or the the Balakot air strikes. He is using soldiers’ sacrifice for political gains,” Captain Amarinder said.

He also said PM Modi failed to take up the Sultanpur Lodhi development scheme forward. “The Union home minister had held some meetings but invited only the Badals to discuss the plan,” he said. The CM also promised to settle the ₹31,000 cash credit limit once the Congress government forms the government at the Centre and slammed the SAD-BJP government for putting the financial burden on the state.

He also took up questions from the public. Kuldeep Kumar of Jalandhar asked the CM whether the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal were handin-glove, saying why no action was taken against the Badals by his government in connection with the sacrilege incidents of 2015. The CM said, “We have to follow the law. The SIT will submit its report directly to the court and the verdict will be binding on one and all.”

The chief minister said the free smartphones promised to the youths will be distributed soon after the polls.
