Sunam (Sangrur) : Facing criticism from the Opposition over his alleged failure to end drugs from the state, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today claimed that he had fulfilled his promise to end the drug menace by putting thousands of smugglers behind bars.
“I had taken a pledge with Gukta Sahib in my hand to end drugs and I have kept my word. Over 26,000 smugglers have been put behind bars. Earlier, chitta was available in the state for Rs 1,200 per gram and I have learnt that its rate has now jumped to Rs 6,000 per gm. This has happened only because of the crackdown on peddlers,” he said, while addressing a rally at Sunam.
He said people should support the Congress because the BJP wanted to divide the nation on caste lines.
“The Army does not belong to the BJP. I have also served in the Army and know the problems of Armymen. But unfortunately Narendra Modi is trying to project the Indian Army as his personal force. For national security of the country, all should support the Congress,” the CM said.
On the sacrilege issue, Capt Amarinder said the culprits would be dealt with strictly. “The SIT has questioned 600 persons to gather evidence. It will submit its report in the coming days. All those involved in the sacrilege incidents will face strict legal action. We will not spare any SAD leader of any stature, if found involved,” he added.
